Balloons, Burritos, and Beer

August 3, 2007\Rochelle
October is just around the corner which means the skies above Albuquerque will soon be filled with beautiful balloons of every shape and size. That’s right the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is just a couple months away. This is one event you just can’t miss. I went for the first time last year (2006) and vowed to return.

The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta runs from October 6-14th and will take your breath away. There is nothing like watching hundreds of hot air balloons ascend the open skies above this must visit city. If you have a few days to spare this October get yourself to New Mexico, you won’t regret it.

It may sound tough to get your butt out of bed to be at Balloon Fiesta Park before the sun rises but I promise you will be like a kid in a candy store. At 7AM Balloon Fiesta Park is full of tens of thousands of folks with coffee in hand and munching on breakfast burritos (the best burritos ever!). The smiles and kind faces are infectious as you wonder around balloons of every size, shape, and color preparing for the mass accent into the morning sky.

The mass ascension only last a short time but your senses will be in overdrive for the rest of the day. By 9AM the beer gardens are full of revelers from all over the world ready to chat and throw back a few. The excitement of the morning will keep you going all day so why not head off for a bit of shopping and dinning in Old Town Albuquerque. You will leave will a happy tummy and some amazing South Western goodies.

Make time for this one and book your hotel and airfare now…I’m talking right now. It may be two months out but hotel rooms go fast. Have a fantastic time at the Balloon Fiesta and I will see you there.
